Testimonials

I have been doing yoga for over 10 years and have tried many teachers and tried many studios. There are several intangibles that I look for in a teacher. I like a teacher who’s voice has a soothing timbre, who speaks clearly and articulates their instructions eloquently. It’s important to me that I can sense that my instructor’s passion for yoga runs deep and they have a love of seeing their students progress to new heights/depths. I want a teacher who seamlessly blends an uplifting mantra into the physical postures in class without coming off as a preacher. I love a teacher who’s classes never get stale or repetitive and constantly open up new channels both mentally and physically. I want a teacher who knows I need a challenge. Lastly I want someone that I respect. Heather Rice embodies all of these qualities and more. I knew from my first class with her that she was the instructor for me. She has such a good rapport with her students that she can give each student the individual attention they need in class no matter their level. Her passion is contagious and brings the best out of her students.

Heather has a deep understanding of both the physical and spiritual aspects of yoga, and she shares this wisdom in a very approachable manner. She is down to earth and unpretentious, sharing a funny observation one minute and demonstrating with poise and calm the next. She has a keen way of explaining adjustments so that sometimes she doesn’t even need to touch her students, allowing them to develop their own intuition. I have been practicing yoga for years at different studios, and one of my most cherished lessons comes from Heather’s class: ‘The most advanced pose for you is the one you find both challenge and ease in, no matter if it requires props or doesn’t look as “advanced” as someone else’s pose.’ This statement alone has changed the way I approach my yoga practice and the choices I make in my daily life. I am grateful every day that Amrita Yoga Wellness is just a short walk from my house!

Finding a yoga teacher in the Western world is like dating. One sees a lot of different people, sometimes only once, perhaps a repeat outing here and there- and one keeps looking for that spark that tells you ‘this is the one for me!’

I have been attending yoga classes since 2004 and have grown to be careful in choosing a yoga teacher, as I prefer a teacher who is bursting with knowledge. I prefer to take classes with highly experienced and knowledgeable people who have a deeper understanding of the practice. I went to countless teachers across the USA and internationally, and Heather really stood out to me as a leading teacher who was genuine and wanted to teach rather than be famous. Sure, I saw other people once or twice, but it was her class I attended regularly. Whenever she held a workshop and I was able to attend, I was there.

Not only is she an anatomy, sequencing, alignment, and adjustment expert; she also has the deeper knowledge many modern teachers don’t of mantra, pranayama, philosophy, and the purpose behind the asana and practice itself. She is also very humble, and practices for the sake of the practice rather than practicing to brand herself or be famous. Another positive point is that she studies regularly with her teacher, Dharma Mittra, and always comes back inspired by him with new knowledge and wisdom. Rather than opting for the “love and light” approach, she has a way of helping people to examine themselves and move past their fears that a lot of disciplines shy away from. Not only that, but Heather walks her talk and talks her walk and is dedicated to living and breathing yoga.

I was thrilled when I found out she was offering a 300hr teacher training and knew without a doubt I had to participate. Through regular practice with Heather and the one year teacher training, I gained more knowledge and moved deeper in my practice in two years than I had in the past eight. I am sure that if you would like to know more about the true yoga, Heather can guide you and set you on the path.
